1. FC Heidenheim vs FC Augsburg

This will be just the second season in which 1. FC Heidenheim and FC Augsburg have faced off in professional football. FCA did the league double against Heidenheim last term (5-2 A, 1-0 H) – VfL Wolfsburg were the only other side they also managed to win both games against, while FCH failed to take any points against three other teams in 2023/24. 

1. FC Heidenheim's 2-0 win at FC St. Pauli saw them open a Bundesliga campaign with a victory for the first time. They managed back-to-back wins from their first two games of a campaign just once across nine seasons in the second division: in 2022/23, when they were promoted at the end.

FC Augsburg failed to start a Bundesliga campaign with a win for the fourth season in a row (D2, L2), drawing 2-2 against Werder Bremen. However, they could now remain unbeaten across the first two matchdays of the season for the first time in four years (W2 in 2020/21).

1. FC Heidenheim have lost just one of their last 10 Bundesliga games, spanning multiple seasons (W4, D5): 2-1 at home against RB Leipzig in mid-April. Only Bayer 04 Leverkusen, RB Leipzig and 1. FSV Mainz 05 have suffered fewer Bundesliga defeats in this timeframe (all 0 since mid-March).

FC Augsburg are without a win in their last six Bundesliga games, going back to 2023/24 – amongst current top-flight sides that also spent last season in the division, only Borussia Mönchengladbach are on a longer wait for a win (7 games). FCA's last victory dates back to mid-April against Union Berlin (2-0 H), with their last win on their travels coming in mid-March in Wolfsburg (3-1). They have lost all four of their away games since then.
