1899 Hoffenheim vs FC St. Pauli

Both of TSG Hoffenheim’s home games against FC St. Pauli have ended in draws: 1-1 in the second division in 2007/08 and 2-2 in the Bundesliga in 2010/11. The two sides teams have each won in Hamburg, meaning their head-to-head record is even after four competitive meetings (both W1, D2, L1). TSG are still unbeaten against St. Pauli in the top flight (W1, D1).

TSG Hoffenheim have won just one of their last seven Bundesliga matches (D2, L4), a 3-1 victory over Bochum in their last home game. Hoffenheim’s current tally of eight points after eight matchdays has only been worse in the top flight in 2015/16 (6). However, TSG are unbeaten in three games (W1, D2) after previously suffering four straight defeats.

With five points after eight games, this is FC St. Pauli’s joint second worst start to a Bundesliga season (same as 1996/97) – they’ve only had fewer points at this stage in 2001/02 (3). However, the Kiezkicker’s only win (3-0 in Freiburg) and all five of their goals this season have come in away games.

After scoring at least once in 15 consecutive Bundesliga games, TSG Hoffenheim drew a blank for the first time since mid-March in their 0-0 draw at Heidenheim, although they did also keep their first clean sheet of the league campaign. FC St. Pauli failed to score in a Bundesliga game for the fifth time this season in their 0-0 draw with VfL Wolfsburg last time out – a league high. The promoted side’s tally of five goals is the worst return in the division, and they have never had fewer goals to their name at this stage of a top-flight campaign.
