Atletico Madrid vs RB Leipzig

Atlético Madrid are unbeaten across their last 11 home UEFA Champions League matches after beating RB Leipzig 2-1 (W7 D4), their second-longest ever such run in the competition after a 13-match streak between October 2017 and December 2020 (W9 D4).

Over the last 10 editions of the UEFA Champions League (since 2014-15), amongst the 21 teams to play 20+ home matches in the competition, only Bayern Munich and Napoli (both 4) have recorded fewer losses than Atlético Madrid (W29 D12).  

RB Leipzig have now failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 11 UEFA Champions League games, equaling their longest previous streak without one in the competition between October 2020 and November 2021.

The only previous UEFA European meeting between Atlético Madrid and RB Leipzig was in a single-legged quarter-final in 2019-20, won 2-1 by the German side at the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon.

Atlético Madrid have suffered five defeats in their last eight UEFA Champions League meetings with German clubs (W1 D2), their only win in that sequence coming at home to Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of last season’s quarter-final.

Atlético Madrid were the only side with a 100% home win ratio in last season’s UEFA Champions League, winning all five games. It’s their fourth different run of five home wins in a row but they have never previously won six in a row on home soil in the competition.

RB Leipzig have lost their opening game in two of the last three UEFA Champions League campaigns, although they won 3-1 against Young Boys last season. Those three games have produced 18 goals, an average of six per game.

Only Sevilla (30 years, 66 days) named an older starting XI on average in last season’s UEFA Champions League than Atlético Madrid (29 years, 331 days). Their last starting XI of the campaign away at Borussia Dortmund had an average of 31 years and 6 days, their oldest for any Champions League match.
