Bayern München and Borussia Dortmund will contest the 138th Bundesliga meeting between them, making it the most-played fixture in German professional football. Bayern München have suffered 33 Bundesliga defeats against Borussia Dortmund, more than against any other opponent, and are currently on a three-game winless run against them (D2 L1) – their longest such streak since a five-match run between 2010 and 2012.

Borussia Dortmund have won their last two Bundesliga away games against reigning champions, 2-0 at FC Bayern in March 2024 and 4-2 at Bayer 04 Leverkusen in May 2025. A third consecutive away win against the reigning Bundesliga champions would equal a league record, previously set by BVB themselves (2009-2014) and 1. FC Köln (1968-1969).

FC Bayern Munich (15 matches) and Borussia Dortmund (14) are currently the two longest unbeaten teams in Europe's big five leagues. FCB have even won all of their last eight Bundesliga matches—the longest streak since 2020, when Hansi Flick had 14 consecutive Bundesliga victories.

FC Bayern München have won their first six Bundesliga matches of a season for the first time since 2015-16, and their opening ten competitive matches for the first time since their promotion to the Bundesliga in 1965. They could now equal the record for a Bundesliga club – only Borussia Dortmund (2015-16 under Thomas Tuchel) have won their first eleven competitive matches of a season.

FC Bayern München's 25 goals scored through their first six Bundesliga games this season is the highest tally any team has recorded at this stage of a Bundesliga campaign. Bayern have also scored at least three goals in each of their last seven Bundesliga matches; an eighth consecutive such game against Borussia Dortmund would equal a club record set in 2005 under Felix Magath.
