FC Bayern Munich have lost only two of their 18 Bundesliga matches against RB Leipzig (W9 D7), most recently 1-3 at home in May 2023. In their last away game in Munich in December 2024, Leipzig suffered their joint-heaviest defeat in the Bundesliga, losing 1-5.

The reigning German champions have remained undefeated on the first matchday of the Bundesliga in the past 23 seasons (W18, D5) – the last time FC Bayern Munich lost was 0-1 at Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2001. Bayern themselves have remained undefeated in their opening game in the last 13 seasons (W11, D2) last losing in a 0-1 home defeat to Mönchengladbach in August 2011; this is a Bundesliga record for unbeaten openers.

RB Leipzig have lost only one of their last six Bundesliga games against the reigning German champions since the start of the 2022/23 season (W2 D3), picking up nine points in the process – no other club has picked up as many points against reigning German champions in this period.

FC Bayern Munich enjoyed their best Bundesliga season in five years in 2024/25, picking up 82 points - the same number of points as they won under Hansi Flick in 2019/20. FCB also lost only two Bundesliga games last season (W25, D7) – their fewest defeats in a season in eight years (also 2 in 2016/17).

RB Leipzig had their worst Bundesliga season in the 2024/25 season, finishing seventh with 51 points. For the first time since being promoted to the Bundesliga in 2016, the Saxons failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. At the end of the 2024/25 season, they were winless in five consecutive Bundesliga games (D3, L2), a new club record.
