SC Freiburg have won just one of their 25 competitive games away at FC Bayern München (D3, L21): 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal in 2022/23. The Bavarians haven't lost any of their 24 Bundesliga home games against SC – in league history, only Bayern themselves have ever faced a particular side more often on home soil without ever losing (28 home games vs. VfL Wolfsburg; W26, D2).

SC Freiburg will go into a matchday as the league leaders for just the third time in their top-flight history, last doing so on matchday 7 of 2022/23 before drawing 0-0 at home with Borussia Mönchengladbach. FC Bayern failed to win either of their two clashes against a side sitting at the top of the table last season (D1, L1 vs. Bayer 04 Leverkusen).

FC Bayern München won 3-2 at VfL Wolfsburg on matchday 1, extending their unbeaten run on the opening day of the season to 13 games (W11, D2) – a new Bundesliga record.
