Bologna vs Monaco

Bologna have failed to win any of their last six games in major European competition (D2 L4), failing to score in each of their last four such matches which have all come during this season’s UEFA Champions League campaign.

Monaco have won consecutive games in the UEFA Champions League for the first time since a run of three in March/April 2017, while tonight they ended a 23-game run without a clean sheet in the competition.

Bologna are the only side in this season’s UEFA Champions League to play four matches and fail to score despite registering 48 shots in total and an xG tally of 3.19. In the process of tonight’s 0-1 loss, they became just the fourth Italian side to fail to score in four consecutive UEFA Champions League matches alongside Roma between 2015 and 2017 (four) and Milan in 2023 (five).

Bologna’s only previous European meetings with French clubs came during their 1998-99 UEFA Cup campaign, facing Lyon (W1 L1) and Marseille (D2) that campaign with Marseille eliminating them in the semi-final on away goals.

Monaco have won just three of their 15 major European games against Italian teams (D3 L9), with this their first such meeting since the 2016-17 UEFA Champions League semi-final vs Juventus, where they lost both legs.

Bologna are unbeaten in all 28 of their home matches in major European competitions (W16 D12), with only Ipswich Town playing more home games without losing in Europe in history (30).

Only three teams have scored more goals in the UEFA Champions League this season than Monaco (9). It’s their joint most goals after three games in a season, along with 1997-98.

Bologna have had the most shots without scoring in the UEFA Champions League this season (41) and have gone three major European games without a goal for the first time ever.
