After winning the 2015 DFB-Pokal final 3-1 against Borussia Dortmund, VfL Wolfsburg have only managed two wins from the 20 meetings since (D2, L16). The Wolves last won in Dortmund in the Bundesliga in 2012, picking up just two of a possible 33 points since then and losing on each of their last six trips there. The only previous two match-ups in the Saturday-night primetime slot were both won by BVB in 2014 and 2015.
Borussia Dortmund have collected 19 points from nine games since the start of matchday 23 (W6, D1, L2) – only FC Bayern and Bayer 04 Leverkusen have claimed more during this period (20 each). BVB have scored 23 goals during this run, a tally only topped by Bayern (25). Dortmund are now unbeaten in their last five Bundesliga games (W4, D1), their joint-longest undefeated streak in 2024/25 (also in November/December).
VfL Wolfsburg are winless in their last seven Bundesliga games (D2, L5), currently the longest wait for three points in the division and their longest drought since between November 2023 and March 2024, when they failed to win any of their last 11 league matches under current Dortmund coach Niko Kovac.
VfL Wolfsburg have picked up just 12 points from their 14 games since the midway mark, making it the second-worst second half of a Bundesliga season in their history – they have only ever been worse off at this stage in 2017/18 (11 points from 14 games). Only Kiel, Heidenheim (11 points each) and Bochum (10) have been worse than the Wolves in the second half of 2024/25.
Borussia Dortmund have only kept five clean sheets in the Bundesliga this season, their lowest tally after 31 matchdays since 1990/91 (4). Since 2000, BVB have only conceded more goals at this stage in 2007/08 (54) than they have this term (49). They now take on VfL Wolfsburg, who have the league’s third-best attack on the road (28 goals) after Bayer Leverkusen (32) and FC Bayern München (39).
