Estadi Municipal de Montilivi - Girona
Despite being the 14th different Spanish side to compete in the UEFA Champions League, Girona have become the very first to have lost both of their opening two games in the competition.
Feyenoord have recorded their first away win in the UEFA Champions League since September 2002 vs Newcastle (0-1), ending a run of eight consecutive defeats on the road in the competition. Meanwhile, it is the first time that they have netted 3+ goals in an away match in what is their 22nd such game in the Champions League.
After just two games, Girona have already equaled the record for most own goals conceded in a single UEFA Champions League campaign (3, same as Fenerbahçe in 2007-08), while they’re the first side in UEFA Champions League history to net an own goal in each of their first two games in the competition.
This will be the first ever European meeting between Girona and Feyenoord, with the Red and Whites being the Dutch side’s ninth different Spanish opponent in Europe.
Feyenoord have lost each of their last three European away games against Spanish sides, conceding 2+ goals each time.
Girona’s first UEFA Champions League match ended in a 1-0 defeat to Paris SG via a 90th minute own goal by goalkeeper Paolo Gazzaniga. They were the third team to lose their debut match in the competition 1-0 via a last minute goal, after Lille in 2001 and Union Berlin in 2023.
Feyenoord have lost each of their last eight UEFA Champions League away games (including all three last season), since a 1-0 win at Newcastle in September 2002.
Girona managed just three shots in their 1-0 defeat at Paris SG on MD1 of this season’s UEFA Champions League, the joint fewest by a team in their debut match on record since 2003-04, along with FC Nordsjælland in 2012 against Shakhtar Donetsk and Royal Antwerp in 2023 against Barcelona.
