Holstein-Stadion - Kiel
Since the founding of the Bundesliga, VfB Stuttgart have lost two of their three competitive away games against Holstein Kiel, most recently a 3-2 defeat in the second division in May 2020. VfB won the sides’ first-ever Bundesliga meeting 2-1 at home – they last secured victory in each of their first two Bundesliga matches against a particular club in 2011/12 against FC Augsburg.
Holstein Kiel’s 1-0 win at Union Berlin last time out was their fourth victory in the Bundesliga, but they are yet to record back-to-back top-flight wins. The Storks have picked up only 10 points from their first 12 Bundesliga home games (W3, D1) – since 1990, only one Bundesliga debutant has ever endured a worse start at home: Greuther Fürth in 2012/13 (4).
VfB Stuttgart have claimed just four points from their last six Bundesliga games (W1, D1, L4) – only 1. FC Heidenheim have picked up fewer during this period (1). VfB are currently on a three-game winless run in the Bundesliga for just the second time under Sebastian Hoeneß (also last September/October), while they have already suffered more defeats (8) than in the whole of last season (7).
VfB Stuttgart have squandered a lead in three consecutive Bundesliga games (D1, L2) for the first time since October/November 2020 – doing this in a fourth successive match would equal the club record (most recently in 2013). VfB have dropped a league-high eight points from winning positions in the second half of the season, already more than they threw away before the midway mark (5).
VfB Stuttgart have conceded more goals in the final 15 minutes of games this season than any other side (11), while only FC Bayern München (17) and VfL Wolfsburg (15) have scored more goals in the final quarter of an hour of matches than Holstein Kiel (13).
