Juventus vs Benfica

None of Juventus’ last 25 home UEFA Champions League matches has ended as a draw (W16 L9), losing five of their last eight at the Allianz Stadium.

Benfica have won three of their four away UEFA Champions League matches this season (L1), only the second time they’ve won three away games in one campaign along with 2022-23.

Despite defeat tonight, Juventus have now progressed from nine of their last 10 UEFA Champions League group/league phases, with the exception coming in 2022-23 under Massimiliano Allegri.

Juventus have lost six of their eight previous meetings with Benfica in European competition (W1 D1), only losing more times in such competitions to Real Madrid (10).

Benfica have won all four of their games against Juventus in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League with PSG (2/2) and VfB Stuttgart (1/1) the only other teams to win 100% of their meetings with the Old Lady in the competition.

Juventus won their last home game in the UEFA Champions League, beating Manchester City 2-0 in December. They last won and kept a clean sheet in consecutive home matches in the competition in the 2018-19 campaign, in wins over Valencia (1-0) and Atlético de Madrid (3-0).

Benfica have won three of their last four UEFA Champions League away games, despite conceding in each (3-1 v RB Salzburg, 2-1 v Crvena zvezda and 3-2 v Monaco). This is as many victories as they managed across the previous 21 away matches in which they had failed to keep a clean sheet in the competition (3).

Benfica have netted 14 goals in their seven matches in the UEFA Champions League, making this only the second campaign in which they’ve averaged 2+ goals per game in a single edition (also 2022-23 – 2.6 per game). However, in their last match against Barcelona, they became just the second side to score 4+ times and lose in the Champions League (4-5 defeat), along with Legia Warsaw v Borussia Dortmund in 2016-17 (4-8 defeat).
