Lyon vs Montpellier

Lyon have scored eight goals in the second half stoppage time in Ligue 1 since Pierre Sage made his first start on the OL bench in the top-flight in December 2023 - the highest tally over the period.

This is the first match between Lyon and Montpellier in Ligue 1 in which at least one of the two teams has not scored since 28 November 2021 (also 1-0 for OL). The next five encounters before tonight had produced 5.4 goals per game (27).

Lyon have won three of their last four Ligue 1 matches (L1), having won just one of the previous four (D3).

Lyon and Montpellier will face each other for the 60th time in Ligue 1. Among the current clubs in the top-flight, MHSC are the third team against which Les Gones have won most often (49.2% - 29/59), behind Strasbourg (51.6% - 49/95) and Angers (50.0% - 31/62).

Montpellier have lost five of their last six meetings with Lyon (W1), having won each of the previous three. MHSC's last two wins over OL have come on the road (4-1 in August 2023 and 2-1 in February 2021).

Lyon have not won their first match of a calendar year in Ligue 1 in any of the last three years (D1 L2) and could have their longest run without victory in such matches since 1978-1993 (11 games – D2 L9).

Montpellier were defeated 4-0 by Le Puy in the Coupe de France in their last match, the biggest margin of defeat by a top-flight club against a club beyond the third national level in the history of the competition. They have nine points after 15 matches in Ligue 1 2024/25 and 16 of the 17 teams with that points total or less at this stage of a season in the 21st century have gone on to be relegated.

Montpellier have lost their first match of a calendar year in Ligue 1 in each of the last four years, their longest ever such run.
