Monaco have avoided defeat in seven of their eight UEFA Champions League home games against English sides (W5 D2 L1), conceding 2+ goals for just the second time in these matches (lost 2-0 to Arsenal in March 2015).
Manchester City failed to win four consecutive away games (D1 L3) in the group/league phase of the UEFA Champions League for the first time since November 2016 (D2 L2).
Erling Haaland scored his 51st and 52nd goals on his 50th UEFA Champions League appearance, nine more than anyone else has scored in their first 50 games (Ruud van Nistelrooy, 43), also netting with his first touch of the match.
The only previous competitive meetings between Monaco and Manchester City came in the last 16 of the 2016-17 UEFA Champions League, with the French side progressing on away goals following a 6-6 aggregate scoreline (won 3-1 at home, lost 5-3 away).
Monaco are one of only two sides, along with Real Madrid in 2024-25 (play-off round), to eliminate a Pep Guardiola team from the UEFA Champions League prior to the quarter-finals (eliminated Manchester City in the last 16 in 2016-17).
After losing against Monaco at the Stade Louis II in March 2017, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola could lose his first two away games against an opponent for just the third time in his managerial career (also v Barcelona in October 2016 and Liverpool in January 2018).
Monaco have only lost one of their seven home matches against English sides in the UEFA Champions League (W5 D1), with their lone defeat coming against Arsenal in March 2015 (0-2). They have won all three that have taken place in the group/league phase: 1-0 v Liverpool in 2004-05, 2-1 v Tottenham in 2016-17 and 1-0 v Aston Villa in 2024-25.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has only lost two of his 33 matches taking place in the opening two rounds of a UEFA Champions League campaign (MD1 and MD2), winning 26 of those (D5). Those two defeats did come against French sides, however, losing against Lyon in 2018-19 and Paris SG in 2021-22.
