Alexandre Lacazette has scored his 153rd Ligue 1 goal, breaking into the top 20 of the league's all-time top scorers (tied 20th with Vergnes). The Lyon striker scored his 15th goal against Montpellier, the highest total for a player against the same club in the top-flight since Alain Giresse in 1986 (16 v Metz).
Seven different players were involved in Lyon's goals this Sunday (Mikautadze, Cherki, Tolisso, Nuamah, Lacazette, Matic, Abner), OL having only done better in a Ligue 1 match since Opta analysed the competition (2006-07) on 30 November 2016 (8 v Nantes).
Lyon have scored four goals in two consecutive Ligue 1 games (4-0 v Reims, 4-1 at Montpellier), a first since May 2021 (4-1 v Lorient, 5-2 at Nîmes).
Montpellier have lost each of their last three Ligue 1 matches at home against Lyon, and could suffer four in a row against an opponent in the top-flight for the fourth time, after doing so against Monaco (4 in 1996-1999), Lille (4 in 2018-2022) and Paris SG (5 since 2019).
Lyon are the team against whom Montpellier have scored the most Ligue 1 goals in the 21st century (47 in 36 games). Indeed, only Paris SG (87) have scored more goals against MHSC than OL (66) over this period.
Over the last 45 years, only Bordeaux in 2021-22 (50) conceded more goals after 21 games in a Ligue 1 season than Montpellier have in 2024-25 (48). MHSC have conceded at least one goal in each of their last 27 L1 matches – the longest streak in their history – with only Ajaccio in 2013-2022 (35) and Bordeaux in 2021-2022 (30) having had longer streaks over the last 40 seasons.
Montpellier have conceded at least one goal in each of their last 13 Ligue 1 home games (28 conceded in tally), the second-longest streak in their history in the top-flight (18 in September 2020-May 2021). MHSC have already conceded more goals at home in 11 matches in 2024-25 (25) than in 17 last season (23).
Lyon have not won any of their last five away games in all competitions (D3 L2), last having a longer run in a single season in August-November 2013 (7).
