Montpellier vs Rennes

Montpellier have 15 points after 24 Ligue 1 games in 2024-25. Counting three points for a win, 100% of teams with 15 points or less at this stage of a season in the top-flight have been relegated at the end of the season (23/23). MHSC also have a goal difference of -37 (21 goals for, 58 against), the lowest after 24 games of an L1 campaign since Brest in 1979-80 (also -37).

Rennes have taken 12 points from five Ligue 1 games under Habib Beye (W4 L1), one more than in their previous 15 (11 - W3 D2 L10).

Rennes have won their last two Ligue 1 away games (2-0 at St Etienne, 4-0 at Montpellier), after not winning any of their first nine this season (D1 L8). This was SRFC's biggest away win in the top-flight since 21 May 2023 (5-0 at Ajaccio).

Montpellier have lost eight of their last 11 games against Rennes in all competitions (W2 D1), as many as in their previous 23 (W8 D7).

Montpellier have lost 16 of their first 23 games in Ligue 1 2024-25 (W4 D3). Only two teams have remained in the top-flight despite losing 16 or more matches at this stage in the history of the league: Red Star in 1935-36 (14th/16th at the end of the season) and Sète in 1947-48 (16th/18th).

Rennes have won three of their last four Ligue 1 games (L1), as many as in the previous 15 (D2 L10).

Montpellier have conceded the first goal of the game in 11 of their 12 Ligue 1 2024-25 home matches, more than any other team and already the second highest tally over the same L1 season for MHSC behind 2003-04, the season of their last relegation to Ligue 2 (13).

After their 2-0 win at St Etienne on 8 February, Rennes could record two consecutive away clean sheets in Ligue 1 for the first time since September 2023 (at Brest and then at Montpellier).
