PSV registered their biggest ever win in the UEFA Champions League and their biggest win in a European Cup match since a 5-1 win over FCSB in November 1989.
Girona have conceded four own goals in four games in the UEFA Champions League this season, already the most by a team in a single campaign. Ladislav Krejcí is just the third player with two own goals in a season, after Caçapa in 2002-03 and Edu Dracena in 2007-08.
This was PSV’s 122nd game in the UEFA Champions League but only the third time they’ve scored two goals in the first half of a game, also doing so in September 2000 in a 3-1 win over Man Utd and in September 2016 in a 2-2 draw with Rostov.
This will be the first ever meeting between PSV and Girona in any competition – the Eindhoven side have won just two out of 20 European Cup/UEFA Champions League games against Spanish teams (D9 L9).
The last Spanish side to win away at PSV in European competition was Granada in October 2020 in the UEFA Europa League (2-1), with each of the last three visiting sides failing to win there (D2 L1): Real Sociedad (D1) and Sevilla on two occasions (D1 L1).
PSV have only won two of their last 15 home games against Spanish sides in European competition (D8 L5), although they are unbeaten in the most recent three (W1 D2), including one in the group stage last term (2-2 v Sevilla).
Girona lost their first away game in the UEFA Champions League on MD1, courtesy of a 90th minute own goal from goalkeeper Paolo Gazzaniga. No Spanish side has ever lost both of their first two away matches in the competition.
PSV are unbeaten in their last five home matches in the UEFA Champions League; their longest run without a home defeat in the competition since December 2005 (11 games). However, four of the five games in their current run have ended in stalemates (W1), including each of the last three.
