Saint Etienne vs Lille

St Etienne won their first Ligue 1 game since 16 April 2022, ending a run of nine games without a win in the top-flight (D2 L7). Les Verts’ last three wins in L1 have come at the Chaudron.

Lille have lost two consecutive Ligue 1 games (3-1 v Paris and 1-0 at St Etienne tonight) for the first time since May 2022 (3-0 at Troyes and 2-1 v Monaco).

Lille lost against a promoted side for the first time since a 3-0 defeat at Troyes in May 2022. Les Dogues had gone 11 consecutive games without defeat against these opponents, including 10 wins (D1).

St Etienne and Lille have drawn their last four meetings in Ligue 1 (2x 1-1, 2x 0-0), with ASSE going seven games without a win against LOSC in the top-flight (D4 L3).

St Etienne have kept a clean sheet in four of their last six games against Lille in Ligue 1, scoring only two goals in this run (1-1 in November 2020 and August 2021).

St Etienne have failed to score in their first three games of a Ligue 1 season for the first time in their history. This is the second time (after 2009/10) that les Verts have started a Ligue 1 season with three straight defeats, but they have never begun a campaign with four defeats in a row.

Beaten 1-3 by Paris before the international break, Lille have not lost two Ligue 1 games in a row since the 35th and 36th rounds of the 2021/22 season under Jocelyn Gourvennec.

St Etienne, who were beaten 0-2 by Le Havre in their first home league game of the season, are yet to lose two home games in a row in 2024 in all competitions.
