Europa-Park Stadion - Freiburg im Breisgau
This will be the 50th Bundesliga meeting between SC Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund. BVB have won each of the last six top-flight clashes – it’s Dortmund’s longest ongoing winning run against a current Bundesliga team and likewise Freiburg’s longest ongoing losing run.
Borussia Dortmund have scored at least three goals in each of their last six Bundesliga meetings with SC Freiburg (24 in total) – they have only ever managed a longer run like this against FC Schalke 04 from 1964 to 1967 (7 games). However, BVB have failed to score in three of their last five top-flight away games.
SC Freiburg are without a win in their last four Bundesliga games (D3, L1), something they’ve only otherwise done this season in October/November (also 4 games). It’s the first time that the Breisgau club have been winless in back-to-back Bundesliga home games under Julian Schuster (D1, L1) – they only dropped points in three of their first 11 home matches this season (W8, D1, L2).
Borussia Dortmund are seven points adrift of fourth place after 27 games – since three points per win was introduced, only two sides have made up such a large deficit this late on in the season: Leverkusen from seven points back after 29 games in 2018/19 and Dortmund themselves from seven points back after 28 games in 2020/21.
Borussia Dortmund have already lost eight Bundesliga away games this season and are 16th in the away-form table with just 11 points – it’s BVB’s worst record after 13 away matches in 17 years (also 11 points in 2007/08).
