Everton’s five-game unbeaten run in the Premier League comes to an end, with this their third defeat in their last four away to Southampton in the competition (W1).

Adam Armstrong’s goal was just his second in his last 32 Premier League appearances, and only Southampton’s fourth home goal in the league so far this season.

Southampton have won 13 Premier League home games against Everton – no side have they beaten more often on home soil in the competition (also 13 vs Newcastle).

Though they’ve lost five of their last seven Premier League away games against Southampton, Everton won 2-1 on their last visit to St Mary’s in October 2022. They’ve not won consecutive away league games against Saints since January 1992.

Southampton are winless in their last 22 Premier League matches (D5 L17). The only sides to have longer winless runs in Premier League history are Derby County (32 in 2007-08) and Sunderland (26 between 2002 and 2005).

Everton have gone five Premier League games unbeaten (W2 D3), after losing the five games beforehand. The Toffees last had a longer unbeaten run between August and October 2022 under Frank Lampard (6).

Southampton have picked up one point in their opening nine Premier League games this season (D1 L8). The fewest points won in the first 10 games of a Premier League season is one, by Sheffield United in both 2020-21 and 2023-24.
