Union Berlin vs Bayer Leverkusen

1. FC Union Berlin have only won one of their 10 Bundesliga games against Bayer 04 Leverkusen: 1-0 in January 2021. Since then, they’ve endured a seven-match winless streak against them (D4, L3) and have failed to score in each of the last four – their longest drought against any opponent in the Bundesliga.

Union Berlin are winless in their last four Bundesliga games (D2, L2), although they have 10 points more (16) than they had at this stage last season. Bayer 04 Leverkusen have recorded the worst start by a reigning champion for six years – FC Bayern also had 20 points on the board after 11 matchdays in 2018/19.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen are unbeaten in their last 22 Bundesliga away games (W16, D6). In league history, only Bayern have ever put together longer undefeated streaks on the road (33 games from 2012 to 2014 and 26 games from 1985 to 1987). The Werkself have also scored in all 22 of these fixtures, an ongoing club record.

Union Berlin have never beaten a reigning Bundesliga champion in the top flight (D3, L7 – all vs. Bayern). They’ve scored only two goals in their last five such fixtures, although Bayer 04 Leverkusen have conceded 18 goals already this season – this century, only two reigning champions have let in as many goals across the opening 11 matchdays (Wolfsburg conceded 19 in 2009/10, Stuttgart also 18 in 2007/08).

Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s 5-2 victory against Heidenheim last time out saw them come from two goals down to win a Bundesliga game for the first time since April 2016 (3-2 at Schalke). The Werkself have already picked up nine points from losing positions in the league this season, a league high. Opponents Union Berlin, however, are yet to drop a single point from a winning position in the Bundesliga in 2024/25.
