After a 2-1 victory on their first trip to Union Berlin in the Bundesliga in September 2019, Werder Bremen have since lost their last three away games against them. Of teams that Werder have played multiple times away from home in the top flight, they only have a higher loss percentage at RB Leipzig (88%) than at Union (75%).
1. FC Union Berlin are currently on the longest unbeaten run of all Bundesliga teams (7 games; W3, D4) – FCU have only gone longer without defeat in the top flight between April and September 2022 (14 games). SV Werder Bremen haven’t lost any of their last five league games (W4, D1), with only FC Bayern, Bayer 04 Leverkusen (both 6) and Union currently on longer unbeaten runs.
With 46 points to their name, this is SV Werder Bremen’s best Bundesliga season in six years (also 46 points after 31 games in 2018/19). They were last better off at this stage in 2009/10 (54), when they qualified for Europe for the last time to date. Since the start of 2009/10, 87 of the 95 teams (92%) to have at least 46 points after 31 matchdays have played European football the following season.
Werder Bremen have claimed 26 points away from home this season, the third most behind FC Bayern (34) and Bayer 04 Leverkusen (33). Since three points for a win was introduced, Werder have only ever collected more points from their first 15 away games of a top-flight season in 2003/04 on their way to winning the league (34). SVW could now win four consecutive Bundesliga away fixtures for the first time in their history.
SV Werder Bremen have kept four clean sheets in their last five Bundesliga games, conceding just one goal – both are league bests since the start of matchday 27 (Frankfurt also 4 clean sheets). SVW could now record three consecutive clean sheets in the top flight for the first time since May 2020 (also 3).
