VfB Stuttgart have lost three of their four competitive games against Holstein Kiel to date (W1), including the last two meetings in Bundesliga 2 in 2019/20 (1-0 H, 3-2 A). VfB’s only previous home game against Kiel saw them lose 1-0 in October 2019 – FC Bayern are the only side they have ever suffered defeats to in each of their first two home clashes in professional football.
With nine points on the board, VfB Stuttgart only have half as many points as they did after seven games last season. Holstein Kiel are on just two points, making them the worst debutants in the Bundesliga since SV Darmstadt 98 in 1978/79 (also 2 points from 7 games).
VfB Stuttgart’s 4-0 defeat in Munich last time out ended their 22-game scoring run in the Bundesliga. They are now also winless in three league games for the first time under Sebastien Hoeneß (D2, L1), their longest wait for a victory since early 2023 (5 games back then).
VfB Stuttgart have only lost one of their 24 Bundesliga home games under Sebastian Hoeneß (3-2 against Hoffenheim in October 2023, since then W10, D5) and have found the net in every single one of them – no other Bundesliga side has gone longer without defeat at home (15 games) nor scored in as many consecutive home matches (24).
Holstein Kiel are the first team since 1. FC Saarbrücken (first 10) and Karlsruher SC (also 7, both in the first ever Bundesliga season in 1963/64) to concede at least two goals in each of the first seven Bundesliga games in their history. Only Rot-Weiß Essen in 1976/77 (first 11) and Saarbrücken in 1963/64 have ever conceded at least two goals in each of their first eight games of a Bundesliga campaign.
