Insights / Pre Match

Washington Spirit have won four straight meetings with Angel City FC after Angel City took each of the first two encounters, both in 2022. The Spirit can tie their longest winning streak against a single opponent (5 vs. Gotham FC in 2016—18) while only Seattle (2022—23) has won five straight over Angel City before.

Washington, who lost 3—0 to Gotham FC on Saturday, has not lost consecutive regular-season matches since the start of the 2024 season. In fact, the Spirit have followed each of their seven league losses since the start of last season with a win in their next match.

Angel City FC scored within the first 15 minutes of each of its three away matches this season, including Riley Tiernan’s ninth-minute goal at Orlando on Friday. This is the fifth time in NWSL history a team has scored in the first 15 minutes of three straight regular-season road games, something no team has done in four straight away from home.

Tara McKeown ranks in the top 10 in the NWSL in both clearances (6.5, 2nd) and interceptions (2.2, 9th) per 90 minutes this season (min. 270 minutes played). Her 8.7 combined clearances plus interceptions per 90 minutes leads the NWSL in 2025 with Spirit teammate Rebeca Bernal’s 7.7 tied for fourth.

Angel City FC is one of two teams (Kansas City) with three players with at least four goal contributions this NWSL season. The Angel City trio of Riley Tiernan (22 years old), Alyssa Thompson (20 years old) and Kennedy Fuller (18 years old) are the three youngest players with four-plus goal contributions this season.
