Insights / Post Match

West Ham have shipped eight goals across their first two games of a top-flight campaign for the first time ever.

Chelsea’s win was just the 10th time in Premier League history that a side scored 5+ goals in their first away game of the season, with the Blues also the last to do so, winning 6-2 away to Wolves last season.

Graham Potter is the first West Ham manager in Premier League history to fail to get into double figures for points in his first 10 home games, taking just nine courtesy of two wins, three draws and five defeats.

Insights / Pre Match

West Ham have won four of their last eight home Premier League games against Chelsea (D2 L2), but did lose 3-0 at the London Stadium last season, last suffering consecutive home league defeats to the Blues in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 campaigns.

Chelsea have won five of their last seven Premier League meetings with West Ham United (D1 L1), and overall have 32 wins in the competition against the Hammers, only beating Spurs more often (37).

West Ham United lost 3-0 to Sunderland on MD1 this season, and have started a Premier League season with consecutive defeats on eight previous occasions, most recently in 2022-23. Only Southampton (9) have lost both of their first two matches in a Premier League campaign more often than the Hammers.

Chelsea had 19 shots without scoring on MD1 in their 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace. The Blues haven’t failed to score in their opening two league matches of a campaign since 1995-96, when they opened with two goalless draws.

Chelsea have gone three Premier League games without shipping a goal for the first time since February 2023 – they last enjoyed a longer run in March 2021, when they went four without conceding.
